Entry 1-Research on Digital artist

Digital artist:

Tim Biskup
Tim Biskup is a painter from California, he was born in 1967 in Los Angeles. When he is still a teenager, he went on a trip with his family to the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and he was introduced to the work of artists like Jean Dubuffet, Arshile Gorky and Roberto Matta. From then on, the three artists became Biskup’s greatest inspiration.

He studied fine art at Otis/ Parsons before entering the animation and illustration industries where he honed his technical skills. He began his career at the animation studio for six years but found something wrong and usually about his career. He and his friends want to have an exhibition for the paintings but didn’t have the power to make it. As for him and his friend getting the idea to put their painting in the bars around Los Angeles in 1998, hosted a series of guerrilla-style art. Which the series caught the attention of gallerists and he decided to start his career as a fine artist.

In the following years, his work has been shown in museums and galleries around the world. His interest in creating limited edition objects and prints, and has attracted a lot of following of avid collectors. He even opened his own store/gallery in Old Town Pasadena, Bishop Gallery exhibits and sells original paintings, hand painted objects, clothing, toys, books, cards and store exclusive items.

Although it might seem like digital painting this is actually painted by hand, and it's clean
and precise looking just like digital art.

Why do you choose the artist as your inspiration?
After looking into his websites, bio and interview I find him really interesting. He likes to have a playful, vibrant, free working method. When looking at one of his interviews he is jumping in the pool and playing something like flying fox, and his workspace is full of neon bright color just like in he is painting showing his a playful person.

In various of his painting we can see they are filled with bright colors, abstract , whimsical shapes, flattened, neon colors, geometry, and cartoony (some). He clams himself as a pop-surrealism paint mid-century painting but he don't avoid painting animals and women figure, redefining himself. He expresses his emotion through his painting, although it may seem playful and bright, there is a pinch of darkness, emotional feeling in his work. In a way is does related to his personal background (horror films, punk rock, religion, mysticism, science).

Another interesting thing about him is that he has a band with his brother Mike Biskup call "Big Butters". Tim Biskup did use his own music/soundtrack in his exhibition.
